The second of February, eleven friends, our teacher Adriana and me arrived to Philadelphia, which received us with a beautiful sunny day; maybe anticipating the amazing experience that was starting.
The first day was impossible to us to roam the huge campus of Saint Joseph’s University, but just the first impression was awesome, the Sports Center, the library, the cafeteria, the soccer field and all the facilities that SJU offers were incredible.
Moreover, hopefully SJU is located in Philadelphia, so we could visit one of the most important historical cities in the United States, because there, in 1776 was declared the independence from Great Britain. Philadelphia was, also, the capital of USA until 1799 so we could enjoy its multicultural heritage.
Living in the campus and sharing classes with people from all over the world, allowed us to learn about other cultures and be open-minded to understand and respect other idiosyncrasies.
During February we, also, visited a high school in the down town area. There, we played different games with the children testing them about “How much did they know about Argentina?” and then they taught us some vocabulary and slang.
Moreover, one of the most important and challenging activities that we did it was the opportunity of make a presentation about history, culture and economy of Argentina in front of a group of students of the School of Business of SJU. It was an incredible experience that I could share with my friends and Adriana, working all together to represent our country because before us talked the consul of Chile in Philadelphia.
To sum up, it is clear that this is not “one more trip” of holidays, and it is a wonderful and enriching experience for teenagers, in which we could visit another country, know other people, other cultures and learn many values and rules that, unfortunately, sometimes shortages in our country. |
