Since
1994 Oasis became one of Britain's most popular and critically
acclaimed bands of the decade. They are responsible for
returning British guitar pop to the top of the charts, although
they don't like to be classified as a British pop band,
because for them the music played in England is not rock
and roll as the music played in America.
Originally, the group was formed by schoolmates Liam Gallagher
(vocals), Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs (guitar),
Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan (bass) and Tony McCarroll
(drums) calling the band “Rain,” but when Liam
became the singer they changed their name to Oasis. Next
year Noel Gallagher, Liam's older brother, joined the band
and due to his experience in other bands, like Inspiral
Carpets, he became the main songwriter. In 1993 they were
listened by the creation Records´ manager and they
were immediately offered to sign a contract. After years
of playing together, Gem Archer (actually second guitar)
and Andy Bell (Bass) joined the band after Bonehead and
Guigsy´s retirement.
As everybody knows they are preferently musically influenced
by the Beatles and some of the songs written at the beginning,
like Supersonic (their first demo) with a bit of influence
of the Stone Roses or the Sex Pistols. They have been broadcasting
their hits all over the world, with singles such as Champagne
Supernova, Don't look back in Anger, Wonderwall, Stand by
me, Little by Little, or Stop crying your heart out, and
since then; everybody knew they were going to be a symbol
of the music of the nineties.
Nowadays, after their sixth album, titled in traditionally
clanging fashion, Don't believe the truth, they continue
being very well-known worldwide, particularly amongst teenagers
and adults. If Noel does what he has promised months ago,
next year, we will have them playing in our country for
the 3rd time.

Don't Look Back In
Anger |
Written by Noel Gallagher
Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play
You said that you'd once never been
All the things that you've seen
Will slowly fade away
So I'll start the revolution from my bed
Cos you said the brains I had, went to my head
Step outside the summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out
So Sally can wait, she knows it's too late as we're walking
on by
Her soul slides away, but don't look back in anger I hear
you say
Take me to the place where you go
Where nobody knows if it's night or day
Please don't put your life in the hands
Of a Rock n Roll band
Who'll throw it all away
