Are you aware of the fact that many parents consult psychologists because of their children's behavior? Nowadays, more than 30% of parents admit having visited a professional because they notice a huge change in their kids' personality, as they seem to become more and more violent, lonely and even rebel against them. As a matter of fact, the most plausible reason discovered by psychologists about this ¨phenomenon¨ is that peer groups have a great influence on children.
First of all, it seems that many teenagers, looking for immediate acceptance among their peers go through serious and deep transformations in their character. At first, differences in ways of dressing, talking and even acting look insignificant, but after a couple of years, these changes grow and right there is when the family problem begins.. For instance, children start transforming by developing ways of dressing similar to their peers' and then manners in order to be accepted by their group of friends.
Consequently, they keep on sharing more and more time with peers and when time comes to be with the family kids & adolescents usually feel isolated, baffled because they believe it is not their environment.
Secondly, peer groups have an enormous influence on making teenagers get into bad habits that, maybe, not even them were expecting to develop. For example, tobacco, alcohol and even drug consumption start in these little groups of young people who persuade each other to have these flaws. Mainly, this fact is because of adolescents with low self-esteem looking for acceptance in a group.
Consequently, most teenagers feel depressed and with a weak personality because they find themselves awkward in the situations they are placed in.
In conclusion it is clearly seen that peer groups have great participation in children's character and personality formation. Acceptance among these groups is quite a big issue. Therefore, it is high time families began taking part in their children's personality development from an earlier age in order to broaden their minds and teach them what they should do and what they should not do..
