| Do scientific experiments pose a potencial
threat to humanity? |

Experimenting with the
control of human life, behavior and characteristics can bring
about positive and negative consequences. Some people think
it is necessary to go ahead with these experiments, but others
are sure that they should be stopped.
Scientists tinker with life in order to discover
new beneficial solutions to find the cure for incurable diseases
or for those which are difficult to treat. As time goes by,
new technologies are being created, and this is positive for
future discoveries and for saving lives. Although people think
that scientists are constantly intervening in the natural
order of evolution, this is done to find the cure for terminal
diseases or to know how to prevent them.
However, scientific experiments with animals or with human
life are not always advantageous. Modifying genes is a dangerous
practice which can interfere with the natural order of evolution
of humans and animals. For example, there is one specific
experiment that allows parents to choose the sex of their
unborn child. If this does not work, parents might not want
to have that child. The idea of terminating the pregnancy
might come to their minds, and one life could be exterminated.
Another example is the risk of cloning. It could be possible
that an army of people of similar characterisitcs could be
used against mankind.
In conclusion, I think that there should be a balance between
doing research to finding a cure for terminal
diseases and practices such as, cloning and
gene manipulation. I advocate the former because this will
be beneficial for people’s health. As regards the latter,
it is dangerous to think that there would be people with the
same mental and physical characteristics, which would be an
extreme threat to humanity. Top |
